Germany Surrenders
“[The Germans] were asked sternly if they understand the surrender terms imposed upon Germany and if they would be carried out by Germany. They answered Yes. Germany, which began the war with a ruthless attack upon Poland, followed by successive aggressions and brutality in internment camps, surrendered with an appeal to the victors for mercy toward the German people and armed forces.”
~New York Times
On May 7th, 1945, Germany agreed to sign to an unconditional surrender. They signed at the Allied headquarters in Remis, France, and the effects of the surrender were to take effect the next day. The European conflict of World War Two was ended.
Propaganda Significance
Overall, propaganda had an enormous impact on how people viewed the war and the war effort. The "Wanted for Murder: Her Careless Talk Costs Lives" poster showed that it is not all right to talk about the government or military's secrets. That is still the case today, also. Even though the Office of War Information is long gone, we know as American citizens that we cannot disclose certain information.
